Preserving Democracy
and Rights
Mission Statement:
To strengthen and build our democracy by promoting truth, liberty, and justice.

Our Preserving Democracy and Rights Taskforce is focused on standing up for democracy, both locally and nationally. Its purpose isn't only to help community members become informed citizens, but first-and-foremost to help them get involved in the democratic process in ways that are practical, realistic and that will make a difference.

Goals
-
Build a community of people in Golden and adjacent areas who will work together to advance our mission.
-
Inform community members of actions they can take, and connections they can make.
-
Educate the community about constitutional rights such as free assembly, free speech, and due process.
-
Help protect the constitutional rights of others in the community being targeted for exercising their rights.
-
Support universities and public institutions in their efforts to stand against administration attacks.
-
Advocate for laws/constitutional amendments at federal, state and local levels to strengthen citizen’s rights and ensure a fair election process.

Protecting
Immigrants
Mission Statement:
To stand in solidarity with the immigrant community, provide factual information to counter myths, and advocate for more humane immigration policies.

Our Protecting Immigrants Taskforce is part of the statewide Immigration Protection Team network (IPT). With over 20 teams across Colorado, each IPT chapter tailors activities—such as community education, distributing "Know Your Rights" information, contacting officials, and supporting the Colorado Rapid Response Network (CORRN)—to fit their local context.
A key principle of IPT is collaboration with existing community groups to strengthen the collective voice for justice, avoid duplicating efforts, and strategically focus resources on unmet needs.

Golden IPT: Our Local Action Plan and Goals
Applying these statewide principles in Golden, our Immigrant Protection Team is focused on making a tangible difference right here in our city. Our current action plan is centered on engagement, education, and direct support within Golden.

-
Community Engagement:
-
We will continue working with the City of Golden to ensure information about immigrant rights is accessible to all, and to help promote supportive events and trainings. We may also bring immigrant concerns directly to City Council meetings.
-
We plan ongoing engagement with the Golden Chamber of Commerce to share resources and potentially facilitate a 'Know Your Rights' session tailored for local businesses.
-

-
Education and Information:
-
We are planning to host a community "Immigration 101" event to educate the Golden community on immigration policies, constitutional rights, and common myths, providing context for understanding current challenges.
-
We will explore providing "Know Your Rights" trainings for immigrant allies and, if needed, directly for members of Golden's immigrant community.
-
In collaboration with Up2Us Golden and other IPTs, we plan to create signs for businesses and residents to visibly express support for immigrants, potentially including QR codes linking to resources.
-
We will work with local publications to publish informative content related to immigration.
-

-
-
To enhance our community's ability to respond effectively and safely to ICE activity, we plan to host a Colorado Rapid Response Network (CORRN) Confirmer Training in or near Golden.
-
We will coordinate participation in immigrant-supportive rallies, marches, vigils, and demonstrations.
-

-
Growth and Outreach:
-
We will actively grow our membership by reaching out to individuals who have expressed interest, and by raising awareness about the Golden IPT within the community.
-

The Golden Immigrant Protection Team is committed to being a proactive, supportive presence for our immigrant neighbors. By combining local action with the resources and solidarity of the statewide IPT network, we strive to make Golden a more welcoming and just community for everyone.
