House Meetings
A critical part of UP2US Golden is bringing our community together so that we can stand together.
(And sometimes sit together.)
One way we do this is through House Meetings, where community members invite friends, neighbors and others to a discussion.
These discussions are informal but are typically chaired by a trained facilitator and follow a set structure. They are centered around two main goals:

-
To learn about priority issues of concern for community members.

-
To mobilize community members to engage though our Task Forces, through actions, through connecting with other groups, and through hosting their own House Meetings.

House Meetings have been designed, primarily, to help community members get involved. Their purpose is to give people a chance to share concerns, and to then help them find realistic and practical ways to address them and make a difference.

Why House Meetings

-
House Meetings are a comfortable and safe space for sharing. A gathering of 5-10 people gives everyone a chance to share and still be finished in a reasonable amount of time.

-
House Meetings build and strengthen relationships. When we know our neighbors and are out interacting in the community we are more likely to help each other and fight together for a common purpose.

-
House Meetings engage people who might have been watching from the sidelines. Many people want to 'do something', but don't know what or how. House Meetings offer a variety of ways to get involved.

-
House Meetings help people become part of the change that they want to see. House Meetings inspire engagement. They can even help new leaders emerge.

-
House Meetings are there for sharing our own stories and concerns, and also – as importantly – they are there for listening, for learning. House Meeting facilitators ensure conversations are kind, respectful and constructive.

-
House Meetings are for understanding the concerns, fears and hopes of others, and for inspiring one another. House Meetings inform and motivate potential actions on priorities, and help people who want to get involved actually get involved.
